About SBI General Insurance Company Limited
SBI General Insurance began as a joint venture between the State Bank of India and Insurance Australia Group (IAG), with IAG exiting the venture entirely in 2019. It offers general insurance products spanning health, motor, home, travel and personal accident cover.
Since starting operations in 2009, the company has expanded from 17 branches in 2011 to over 139 branches nationwide and has served more than 10 crore customers, winning industry recognition including FICCI's 'Insurer of the Year' (2020 and 2021) and 'Best General Insurance Company of the Year' at the Third Emerging Asia Insurance Awards (2022).
Gross written premium rose from roughly ₹10,828 crore in FY23 to about ₹15,905 crore in FY26, with profit after tax growing from ₹184 crore to around ₹553 crore over the same period, and SBI holding just under 69% of the company.
